The Plan: Cayo Santa Maria to Varadero and back in one day. The Method: No clue whatsoever. The Goal: Shopping at the “market”. (Alice’s idea) The Equipment: El Taxi, air conditioned and comfortable. The Pilot: Jose, Gaviota’s finest, speaks no English. The Co-Pilot: Captain Don, drinks dark rum, speaks no Spanish.

The Taxi Cab Diaries

This is not a story of heroic feats. It is a glimpse of two ~~lives~~ families running ~~parallel~~ scared for a time, with similar hopes and convergent dreams of surviving the taxi ride from hell.

And so, while in Varadero the kids played mini putt and the parents sampled some of the local beverages, talking about this tourist revolution.

The drive back to the cayo started without incident. This video is before nightfall and the causeway for concern. You see, the taxi’s electrical system quit and we where stuck on the unlit causeway without lights!
